The Sperry Family Farm LLC Goat Sales Policy

The Sperry Family Farm LLC reserves the right to retain any kid born here on our farm at any time. Our goat kids will only be sold to homes approved by seller. Goats are herd animals and are happier and healthier when they live with other goats. Single goats will not be sold unless the buyer already owns goats on their property. In the case of a buyer not owning goats, buyer must purchase 2 or more goats, there will be no exceptions made to this rule for the health and well-being of the animal.

Buyers Responsibilities

When sending inquiries about an animal for sale, please send an email via the "Contact Us" link at the top of this page or you can send a personal message on Facebook by using the link at the bottom of this page. Animals will not be considered sold until an agreement has been reached between both parties and a NON-REFUNDABLE deposit has been received by the seller, see below. If you are a new goat owner please include answers to the following questions and let us know a little bit about yourself and why you are considering owning goats. If you are an established herd, please send a link to your farm website or Facebook page if you have one.

  • Why are you buying goats? Are you looking to breed them? Or to have as pets/companionship?
  • Do you have a year round reliable source for hay? Goats eat a lot of hay! Really, a lot.
  • Do you have a large animal veterinarian available? Do they treat goats? Not all do.
  • Goats need protection from all weather elements. Do you have a secure shelter?
  • Do you have reliable fencing? If goats are not happy within the fence they may try to escape.
  • Are there any zoning restrictions where you live that would prevent you from owning goats?

Sellers Responsibilities

  • Goat kids will be disbudded, tattooed (registered breeding stock), vaccinated for CD&T and will receive coccidia prevention prior to leaving our farm, a health record will accompany animal at time of pick up.
  • ADGA registration applications will be included on the sale of breeding stock, which includes ALL does/doelings and intact males.
  • All goats in our herd over 6 months of age have tested negative for CAE and Johne's in September 2019.
  • The buyer and the seller will inspect the animal at time of pickup, any animal that does not appear to be in good health will not leave the farm and a new arrangement will be made. There is no health guarantee on the animal once it leaves our farm, the health and safety of the animal is the responsibility of the buyer at this point.
  • Because we consider bio-security to be of the utmost importance we may not choose to have goats re-enter our herd after leaving but we do ask each goat owner that has purchased breeding stock from our farm to give us  the first right of refusal, meaning if you find yourself in a position to re-home one of our goats that you give us the first opportunity to buy it back from you before making it available to the public.

If you would like your name to be added to our kid waiting list, please use the "Contact Us" link above and send us an email with your name, contact info and what you are interested in reserving re: pet wethers (neutered males), doelings. Also please see buyer's responsibilities above and include the info about yourself and your farm. There is no guarantee that the kid you are reserving from a particular breeding will be born. Every effort will be made to fulfill reservations in the order received as kids become available. A reservation does not "hold" a particular animal for you, if you would like to "hold" a specific goat for your purchase, a deposit MUST be paid to the farm.

Putting down a deposit

  • A deposit of 50% of the sale price is required to hold a kid or an adult goat. This deposit is NON-REFUNDABLE and will NOT transfer to another animal, so please know what you are doing. Initial deposits can be in the form of cash or Paypal transaction, personal checks may be considered for initial deposit only. Final payment will be due at time of pick up, this can be in the form of cash.
  • This deposit will hold an adult animal for a period of 2 weeks so that a pick-up arrangement can be made or if you are purchasing a goat kid the deposit will hold the animal until it has been weaned at 8-10 weeks of age. Pick-up arrangements for kids must be made prior to 10 weeks of age.
  • A boarding fee may be charged at $5/day if goat is not picked up within a reasonable time frame, you will be notified and it will need to be paid in cash at time of pick-up.
  • Any and all pick arrangements are the responsibility of the buyer including any interstate shipping requirements.
  • If you do not come to pick up your animal per agreement and you do not communicate the need for a new pick-up date within 7 days of the original date, we will assume that you do not want the animal and it will be put back up far sale, remember your deposit is NON-REFUNDABLE. We understand that things happen and a pick up date may need to be rescheduled BUT it is your responsibility as the buyer to communicate this need with the farm.

We here at The Sperry Farm love our goats and they are treated like family! We have been fortunate to have wonderful mentors that have also become friends available to help our family and our herd be successful and healthy. And we think it is important to do the same for others. We will be available to answer any questions throughout the life of the goat and/or your ownership of the goat. We would love for you to stay in touch and let us know how you and our goat kids are doing!

Pictures are always welcome!

Thank you so much for giving our goats the best homes possible!!
